Aung San Suu Kyi Meets Burmese Officials

Aung_San_Suu_Kyi_www.ideaNobel Peace laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with Burmese labour minister – Aung Kyi – yesterday in Rangoon. In a joint statement, both parties said they were satisfied with the meeting

Suu Kyi did not discuss the details of the meeting but said: “We are ready if there will be a good advantage for the country and the people.” This is Suu Kyi’s first official meeting with Burmese officials since her release from detention in November and comes a month after the government warned the Laureate to cease all political activities and travelling outside of Rangoon.

The meeting took place six days after Suu Kyi attended the 64th state - sponsored Martyr’s Day ceremony in Ragoon commemorating fallen national heroes – including her late father General Aung San – in the fight for independence. Suu Kyi peacefully led a 3,000 strong march with no government intervention.
